Edible Streets!

We were happy to be able to assist! Edible Streets project in Malford Road Barton Oxford

by Elizabeth

North Oxfordshire Topsoil were approached to offer assistance to a project in Barton Oxford.

Edible Streets: it's a research project led by the departments of architecture, nutrition, and psychology at Oxford Brookes, in collaboration with Oxford County Council Public Health. The purpose is to look at the feasibility of growing food in residential areas, to see whether easy access to growing space - i.e., space on your street - will make growing food a viable reality for more people, and with it promote other benefits such as improved community cohesion (knowing your neighbours through communal activity), wellbeing and health benefits through increased interaction with nature and biodiversity.

Also Included were the building of several planters for Bayard’s Hill Primary School (at the end of Malford Road) to make a small school garden that they can use for part of their outdoor learning provision.

We donated 10 Tonnes of our growers mix to aid the project, filling 11 planters in all.
